Are NFC Business Cards Secure?
Can someone steal your data with an NFC card? We explain what the chip actually stores, what it doesn't, and how to protect your privacy with a well-configured digital profile.
What the chip actually stores
The chip in an NFC business card stores a link to your profile. It doesn't contain banking details or sensitive information, and it can't process payments.
Can someone read my card without permission?
NFC only works at very short range, just a couple of inches. Even if someone did read your card, they'd only get the same public link you willingly share with everyone else.
Control what you share
Your privacy depends on what you put on the profile. Only include information you're comfortable with anyone seeing: your work phone number, business email, and public social profiles.
Keep your profile up to date
If you change phones or leave a job, just update your profile. Since it's editable, you never need to replace the card.
Best practices
- Don't include your home address.
- Use your work email and phone number.
- Review your links periodically.
- If you lose the card, you can edit your profile or contact support.
